History and Mission
The Coppertop Room was established in 2026 to fulfill Washington, Illinois’ need for a mid-size, private, multi-purpose event venue and meeting space. Conveniently located in the heart of town, The Coppertop Room is owned and operated by lifelong Washingtonians and husband-and-wife team, Greg Wilson and Jana Hunzicker.
It all started when we began constructing a new building to house Greg’s marketing business, POGO Marketing, that included an office and workshop. The original plan was to construct four equally sized office/retail spaces and offer two of the spaces for lease to other local businesses. But as the building took shape, we couldn’t shake the idea of opening a one-of-a-kind event venue. We drew dozens of floor plans, expanded the venue space once … and then again, and ordered bricks shipped from a razed warehouse in Englewood, Colorado to create a rustic chic interior. We added a full kitchen, televisions, and two fireplaces surrounded with soft seating to make the space feel like home. As our vision for the space evolved, we integrated copper-colored fixtures, penny decor, and shades of WCHS orange and black to make the space fun and inviting. Even the top hat that eventually became the centerpiece of The Coppertop Room logo is our nod to the great Land of Lincoln.
Our mission is to provide an upscale, close-to-home event venue for Central Illinois residents that can be rented for formal occasions, business and social events, and family gatherings; a comfortable space where guests have the choice of hiring a professional caterer, hosting a potluck, or using the kitchen to prepare a favorite meal; a private space where those who gather can settle in and relax, as if they were in their own home - without having to clean for days before and after! A Warm Friendly Space
The Coppertop Room features flexible space that is “just right” for events, gatherings, and meetings serving 60 to 90 people, depending on room arrangement:
Main-level entry – No stairs
1,200 square foot (30 x 40 feet) party, gathering, or meeting space
Outdoor overflow space in front (a covered porch with park benches) and in back (a patio with lawn tables and chairs)
Full kitchen for prepping, heating, and refrigerating food; and rinsing or washing dishes
Two ADA compliant restrooms

Renting the Coppertop Room
Space Rental
Space may be rented in four-hour blocks of time to account for set up, the event itself, and take down/clean up (as appropriate).
Customized set-up, as documented in the rental agreement, will be in place at the time the first four-hour block begins.
Rental Fee
Rental fee will vary depending on the time of day, the day of the week, and some holidays.
The hourly rental fee ranges from $125/hour to $325/hour.
Major holidays include Easter, Independence Day, Halloween, Thanksgiving, Christmas, New Year’s Eve, New Year’s Day, and Super Bowl Sunday.
Minor holidays include Valentine’s Day, St. Patrick’s Day, Memorial Day, and Labor Day.
Payment
We accept payment by credit card, personal check, or cash.
A 50% down payment is required to confirm your reservation. The remaining balance must be paid in full 30 days in advance of the event date.
Cancelations
We reserve the right to cancel your reservation if payment is not received in full 30 days in advance of the event date.
For cancellations made 30 days or more in advance of the event date, 50% of the down payment will be refunded. For cancellations fewer than 30 days in advance of the event date, 0% of the deposit will be refunded.
Concluding Your Event
All guests and personal property must be vacated from the premises at the time the last four-hour block ends. Occupying the space in any way beyond the beginning and ending times stated in the rental agreement may result in an additional charge for space rental.
General Policies
Catering and Decorations
Catering, decorations, bartending, and live music are not provided by The Coppertop Room.
Conduct and Activities
No illegal activities or substances are permitted in The Coppertop Room or anywhere on the premises.
We reserve the right to maintain video surveillance throughout the duration of your event. Any suspicious or illegal activity will be immediately reported to the local police.
Pets
No pets or therapy dogs are allowed on the premises. Only certified service dogs are permitted.
Smoking
No smoking is allowed anywhere inside The Coppertop Room, including e-cigarettes. Smoking is allowed in designated outdoor spaces.
Cleaning
Guests are not expected to clean the main event area or the restrooms.
Caterers or guests who use the kitchen for any purpose are expected to clean up after themselves, including 1) wiping down countertops, 2) running the dishwasher, and 3) taking out garbage.
